ARMED police stopped two teenagers suspected of shooting at a disabled woman.

Officers from Tri-Force stopped the two 15-year-old boys on Tuesday after reports of two youngsters firing a BB gun at walkers in Lawns Park, Old Town.

Emma Bunce, who uses a wheelchair, was among those hit by the lads.

The Old Town woman, 44, was exercising her nine-year-old Jack Russell, Bear, in the park when the youngsters took pot shots at her.

Emma, who has her own beauty business, saw the two teenagers skulking on a path near The Planks park entrance. They were carrying what looked like a toy rifle.

“All of a sudden I felt a sting on my shoulder,” Emma said. “I turned around and saw the boys hiding in the bushes. I didn’t want to confront them.”

The event was over very quickly, she said: “I wasn’t even aware of what it was.”

Emma was unhurt in the attack, but said: “It just startled me, really.”

She said that the youths had apparently fired on another woman later on that day.

According to dog walkers, youngsters had been seen in the park with a pellet gun previously – although it is not known whether it was the same youngsters who were stopped by police.

Writing on Facebook, one resident said: “I’m assuming these are the two that were running around Lawn woods last week aiming at me walking my dogs.”

A spokeswoman for Wiltshire Police said: “We received a number of reports on Tuesday between 10.30am and 11am that two youths were firing what was believed to be a BB gun at members of the public in Lawn woods. A woman in her 40s and her dog were hit.

“Officers attended the scene and conducted an area search. Further enquiries were carried out which led to two males being located in Amersham Road.

“Words of advice have been given at this stage and the weapons found on the two males have been seized, but further enquiries are currently being carried out to establish how many victims there are in this incident and the investigation will progress from there.”

The youths were not arrested, the police spokeswoman added.

Sending armed police to reports of people carrying “guns” is routine. In July, gun-carrying officers rushed to Blunsdon St Andrew after a caller said they had seen a man with a firearm.

When police arrived they spoke to the man but could discover nothing suspicious.
