THOUSANDS of pounds-worth of power tools have been unearthed by police in North Swindon after a tracking device led them to the haul in an isolated outbuilding on the outskirts of town.

The tools were discovered when a man reported his disc cutter as stolen from his van on Abbey View Road on Saturday, September 2.

Luckily, the cutter had a tracker attached which led officers to a site off Tadpole Lane near the Blunsdon railway bridge.

A search warrant was executed on this site and the next day officers found and seized numerous power tools which are believed to be stolen - many were packed in to the back of a white Peugeot van - along with a stolen caravan.

The tools, van and caravan were removed; there was nobody on site at the time and police have not yet identified any suspects.

Sergeant Karen Hunt said: "This is a fantastic find by the North Swindon Community Policing Team.

"The tracker led us to a hoard of goods - without that device we may never have discovered and recovered these items, many of which, we believe, have been taken in thefts from vehicles and construction sites.

"We now have the difficult job of trying to track down the rightful owners of these tools as well as the caravan.

"If you have had power tools stolen or know of someone who has, please come forward."
