EMLPOYEES at a Swindon pipeline company have smashed their target of riding 2017km last month for the Alzheimer’s Society by peddling a further 223km.

Towards the end of last week T.D Williamson’s committed cyclists felt confident they would reach their goal before the month’s end. And now after breaking through their target they are preparing to take on Wales' highest peak in a bid to raise even more money for the charity.

Charles Park, a community relations team member at T.D Williamson, based at Faraday Road, said: “We did extremely well reaching a total of 2240 km for the month of September. It was a great team effort and boosted our charity fund by more than £1,000. We have a week now to recover before tackling Snowdon, this weekend.

"Our parent company in the US have heard of our challenge and have decide to do a global cycling challenge similar to the one we have just completed.

"Company wise, it seems cycling, is doing great."

The fundraising efforts come on the back of a cupcake day that raised more than £100, which TDW then doubled, as well as a Summer Fun Day which raised more than £140, again matched by their employer.

Mr Park, who rode more than 400km of the total, told the Advertiser that staff had travelled the distance by logging their cycled journeys using a distance tracking app called Strava.

“The point is to try and get as many people involved as possible, including people who don’t usually cycle."

Following this mammoth feat, the company has pledged to even more physical hardship to reach this year’s £4000 target.

Around a third of T.D Williamson’s staff have committed to a hike up Mount Snowdon this coming weekend to make up the difference.
