THE newest addition to Swindon’s music scene wowed the crowds outside the Designer Outlet in a bid to raise awareness on World Mental Health Day.

The pop-up choir, which has gone from strength to strength since being formed earlier this year, performed a varied selection of songs ranging from pop tunes to civil rights songs.

Choir member Hannah Parry explained how the unusual group came into being.

“It started when a group of women in Swindon decided they wanted to learn and sing the ‘I Can’t Keep Quiet’ song that was sung at, and became the anthem for, the Women’s March which took place in Washington DC in January 2017,” said Hannah.

“Then we popped up again to sing in the town centre during Refugee Week and at the main event at Christ Church Community Centre.

“We decided we wanted to sing again to raise awareness of mental health for World Mental Health Day and to raise funds for Swindon Mind.”

The group is planning to appear again Christmas approaches but in the mean time they are still keen to welcome new members.

No experience is needed and members don’t have to be able to read music.
