A GROUP of children were approached by a man who asked one boy to “come with him”.

The children, who attend Lethbridge Primary School, were playing in Town Gardens on Thursday afternoon after the school day finished at 3.15pm.

Between then and 4pm, one of the boys was approached by a man.

Headteacher Lisa Mayes wrote to parents to warn them of the approach.

She said the man spoke to the child “in a way that frightened him”.

“He suggested the child should come with him and was threatening in his language when the child made it clear that they would not,” she added.

The incident has been reported to the police.

Mrs Mayes said: “Please remind your children to stick together in pairs and groups when playing out, and to not play games that might leave them vulnerable by becoming separated from their friends, such as hide and seek.”

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said:  “We received a report of this incident involving an unknown man and we are carrying out further enquiries.

“If anyone heard or saw anything suspicious in the Town Gardens around 4pm yesterday please contact police on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
