ANOTHER school has received a potentially life-saving piece of equipment following a campaign by a popular local dog trainer.

Janet Garrett, of Janet’s Puppy Skool, on Tuesday handed a defibrilator to staff and students at Uplands College, the sixth such donation over the past few months.

Janet, who lives in Haydon Wick, has spent the past year raising cash for the machines in conjunction with Swindon Heart Safe, and she was thrilled to hand the last machine to Uplands College.

She said: “It’s a lovely thought that these machines are in schools all over Swindon. Hopefully they will never need to be used, but they are there just in case.

“It’s a really nice feeling to know that the effort that everyone has put in has resulted in something special. It’s exciting and reassuring.”

She even brought her trusty canine sidekick Mack along to meet staff and pupils.

Janet has previously given the life-saving defibrilators to Red Oaks, Dorcan Academy, Churchfields Academy, Tadpole Farm and Liden Primary.

A defibrilator is used to deliver an electric current to someone whose heart has either stopped or developed an irregular rhythm with the aim of getting the heart beating again.

She said: “It’s great that these machines are available, but I hope they never need to be used.”
