KIND-HEARTED pupils from King William Street Primary School stopped by Fillerz café on Monday to donate much-needed funds in helping to feed the homeless.

A total of £128.25 was raised by the school during their Harvest Festival where, instead of asking for food donations, parents were asked to donate any loose change during their church service.

At Fillerz, tokens are handed out to the town’s homeless by Threshold who can then claim a meal at the town centre café.

RE Leader Katie Aljoe said she was thrilled that the pupils were able to see first-hand how the funds help.

“We were quite surprised at how much we raised and for us it was about spreading awareness of what Fillerz does.

“Because our school is a church school we are in partnership with Christ Church and we teach Christian values of helping others, treating others how you would like to be treated and helping your local community.”

Layla, 10 was one of the pupils who was able to hand over the money. She said: “I came here before and we asked some questions and took some notes. For our Harvest Festival we spoke about Fillerz and told people what they do and how they help people.”

Dave Pope, who owns Fillerz, said: “I was quite surprised that they donated the funds to us instead of Threshold but either way it is great that these people are able to have tokens and get food.

“We run entirely on donations and sales and since the school had their harvest festival we’ve had parents come in and donate directly.”
