AN enraged man who smashed the tiles off a service station toilet wall after fighting with his girlfriend has been jailed for nine weeks.

Jesse Cookson, 21, stormed into the men's toilets at the Chiseldon Service Station on Marlborough Road before slamming the door into the wall so hard that £100 worth of tiles fell off.

He was handed a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months in May this year, which has now been activated.

Cookson appeared at Swindon Magistrates' Court via video link wearing a white sports jacket.

Prosecutor Nick Barr said: "This gentleman enters the service station with his partner and some friends.

"He has a disagreement with his partner.

"He pushed or kicked the bathroom door open with such force that the door went through the tiled wall."

Cookson, of The Crescent, Chiseldon, admitted causing criminal damage.

Magistrate Helen Pritchard told him: "We are going to activate your suspended sentence and you will be going directly to prison."

The bench reduced the length of his sentence from 12 to nine weeks after taking into account his guilty plea and time already spent in custody.

He must also pay £100 of compensation to the service station.
