Police have raided a home in Okus this afternoon after receiving reports of a man with a gun.
The police helicopter was seen circling over Okus, while officers stormed the property on Pasteur Drive.
One armed officer was seen coming out of the house with a shotgun.
A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said that a man had now been arrested and was in police custody.
He added: "We were called at 1.25pm to an incident in Old Town. We have arrested a man on suspicion of possession of a fiearm with intent to commit an offence.
"He is now in custody at Gablecross Police Station."
Police confirmed that they had seized a number of "items of interest" from the house, which have been sent away for further analysis.
However, they would not confirm what these items were.
A neighbour, 29, who asked not that be named, said: “We came in the house and two minutes later the police turned up.”
She added: “I was sat at the window and a copper appeared telling me to move. They’ve always got police up here at that house. But this is the first time we’ve had armed police.”
Another man, 42, said: “We saw the helicopter and the next minute the police came round.”
One neighbour, 33, added of the house raided by police: "There are often lots of people going in and out."
