BANNED driver Sarah Jane Scott has been handed an eight-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months for several offences.

The 32-year-old, of Beech Avenue, pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and using a car without insurance on November 8 in Devizes.

She also admitted to breaching a community order by failing to attend unpaid work. Magistrates handed her the suspended sentence as well as a new community order which require her to complete 110 hours unpaid work.

Scott’s existing driving disqualification will continue to run for 15 months and six penalty points will be imposed on her licence.

She must also pay £165.

A 32-year-old woman from Eldene has been given a four-week suspended sentence after pleading guilty to attempting to steal a car.

Maria Gowland, of Kennedy Drive, tried to steal a Vauxhall Zafira in Swindon on August 31. If she commits another offence during the next six months, she could be sent to prison for four weeks.

Gowland was also ordered to pay £115 to victim services, which will be deducted from her benefits.

She was also placed under an electronically-monitored eight-week curfew.

A 27-year-old man who pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman on August 15 has been fined £200.

Frederick Lowe, of Barrow Close, Royal Wootton Bassett, was also ordered to pay £85 in costs and £30 to victim services.

A Highworth man accused of assaulting two police officers in July will appear at Swindon Crown Court on January 5.

Joseph Theobald, 29, of High Street, did not enter any pleas to the two allegations on Wednesday, one of causing actual bodily harm and another of assault with intent to resist arrest.

Magistrates released him on unconditional bail until his next hearing.

A woman will appear before magistrates in Chippenham charged with causing criminal damage and breaking her bail conditions.

Kayleigh Nicholls, 22, of The Chesters, Westlea, will attend court on Tuesday, January 16 to face the allegation that on Monday, November 20, she scratched an extremely offensive word into the side of a vehicle.

It is then alleged that she broke her bail conditions by returning to a house in Saltash Road, an address had been banned from visiting.

She denies both charges.

Swindon magistrates fined Stephen Spillane £100 after he admitted causing distress in the town centre on September 28 while he was banned from doing so by an anti-social behaviour order given him by Chippenham magistrates in April.

Spillane, 48, of Tarka Close, Blunsdon, was also told to pay £35 prosecution costs and a £30 contribution towards victim services when he appeared in court on November 17.

A 43-year-old man has been discharged conditionally for six months after admitting to breaking a restraining order.

Magistrates sympathised with Lee Ryan, of Sheppard Street, Swindon, after he revealed the reason for breaking the order.

He sent a card to a woman by post between September 13 and September 14 to inform her that he had been diagnosed with liver cancer whilst serving a prison sentence.

Ryan was ordered to pay £20 to victim services.

A 26-year-old man has been fined £300 after pleading guilty to a drug-driving charge.

Kyle Wells, of Hawthorne Avenue, Swindon, drove along Whitbourne Avenue on August 4 with 568mg of benzoylecgonine per litre of blood in his system, well over the legal limit of 50mg.

Wells also had 3.6mg of cannabis per litre of blood in his system at the time, exceeding the limit of 2mg. Along with the fine, he was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 in costs and £30 to victim services.

A 41-year-old man from Swindon has been given a six-month conditional discharge after pleading guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

Robert Roberts, of Bath Road, was behaving in a disorderly manner while drunk in Euclid Street on October 29. He was told to pay £20 to victim services.
