WILTSHIRE Police has begun its annual campaign to help the public stay safe during the festive season.

Phil Staynings, head of crime prevention for Wiltshire Police, said: “For many people December is a time for fun and celebrations, catching up with family and friends, but unfortunately there are some people who want to take advantage at this time of year.

“December is a busy month but we all need to be vigilant to keep ourselves safe whether that is at home, when shopping, online or when we are out.

“There are people out there who want to steal the presents from under your tree, try to scam you online, or take advantage of those who may have had too much to drink on a night out.

“Throughout December we will be sending out our top tips on social media to help keep residents across the county informed and aware so they can enjoy the festive season in a safe way.”

Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon Angus Macpherson said: “I welcome this seasonal campaign from Wiltshire Police.

“Becoming a victim of crime at any time of year is horrible but especially at a time when people are celebrating and enjoying themselves.

“I hope by sharing their top tips on social media Wiltshire Police will encourage people to take the necessary precautions to keep themselves, property and valuables safe over the festive season.”
