CHRISTMAS has come to the Magic Roundabout from a mysterious source.

A tiny Christmas tree adorned with tinsel and baubles appeared in the middle of the roundabout earlier this week but no one has claimed credit for it.

Swindon Borough Council have put up festive trees on the roundabout in the past but say they are not responsible for this year’s decoration.

Staff from Drove Fire Station, which looks out on to the landmark, said that they didn’t know anything about it either.

The tree is smaller than trees which have had pride of place at the roundabout in previous years.

In 2008 members of the council bit off more than they could chew when plans for a 40ft Christmas centrepiece on the roundabout went wrong.

The tree delivered to the roundabout was 9ft taller than expected but the workmen still attempted to put it up anyway.

However, the extra weight proved too much for the base, which cracked and caused the tree to collapse.

To add insult to injury, when the tree was finally put up vandals damaged its Christmas lights.

In 2010 the Adver reported on an unnamed group that placed a tree on the roundabout, which was similar to this one - is it possible they could have struck again?

Or maybe it was Santa and his elves...?
