NURSERY rhyme fans will remember that 40 doctors couldn’t fix broken Humpty Dumpty when he fell off his wall.

But the hapless egg didn’t reckon with the sewing volunteers at Eastcott’s Repair Café.

When a Humpty Dumpty soft toy landed in their hands with a torn arm, the volunteers repaired it there and then.

“We made him good as new,” said organiser Caroline Davies-Khan.

The Repair Café and Free Shop, which meets every three months, returns to the Savernake Street Social Hall on Sunday.

Volunteers with experience of repairing textiles, clothes, bric-a-brac and small furniture, will be on hand to help fix items.

A Free Shop will give people the chance to swap up to five items – like books, clothes and toys. The only items that can’t be repaired or swapped are bikes and electricals like kettles.

Caroline, of group Eastcott Community Organisation, said: “These events are fantastic. They help to keep items out of landfill and enable us to share our skills and support each other as a community.

“They are also a great way to meet others living locally and make new connections.”

The free event will also feature live music from Rob Beckinsale, Kitchen Sink Dramas and Dave Parsons.

The Repair Café and Free Shop is at Savernake Street Social Hall on Sunday, January 7, 2pm-5pm.
