Magistrates imposed a four-week electronic curfew on Dean Mayo after he stole a dumper truck, thieved bricks from a developer and resisted arrest during an incident on November 12. Mayo, 44, of Bridport Road, pleaded guilty to all three charges when he appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates Court on December 20 and was ordered to remain in his home between 8pm and 6am daily until January 16. He was also told to pay £85 prosecution costs and £85 towards victim services.

Failing to stop after an accident that resulted in a car being damaged cost Simon Crankshaw more than £300 in fines and costs. Crankshaw, 20, of Thornhill Drive, appeared before Swindon magistrates on December 20 and pleaded guilty to driving with out due care on Deneb Drive on May 27 and failing to stop after his ford Focus collided with a Vauxhall Astra. He was fined £97 on each count and ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and £30 towards victim services.

Kevin Crocker was fined £415 after he pleaded guilty to driving his Ford Focus carelessly on Faringdon Road on July 25. The defendant, aged 35, of Winterbourne Road appeared before Swindon magistrates on December 20 when he was also told to pay a £41 contribution towards victim services and £85 prosecution costs. The bench imposed five penalty points on his driving licence.

Magistrates banned Joshua Keirle from getting behind the wheel of a car for a year and told him to do 120 hours of unpaid work after he admitted taking a Vauxhall Corsa without the consent of the owner, driving it without a licence or insurance and damaging it along with a bus. The 19-year-old of Dulverton Avenue, admitted the allegations and was made the subject of a 12-month community order. He was also told to pay £85 towards victim services.

A shoplifter who stole £19.99-worth of goods from Boots in the Brunel Centre on December 2 found himself with a £105 bill. Jamie Massey, aged 34, also known by the name of Mallasey, was given a conditional discharge for a year when he appeared in the dock at Swindon Magistrates Court on December 20 where he was told to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Steven Ross was jailed for 14 weeks by Swindon magistrates for stealing a cashbox containing £277 while he was on licence. Ross, aged 43, of no fixed address, admitted stealing the cash from a British Telecom phonebox in Havelock Street on November 26. At the hearing on December 20 the bench ordered him to pay £115 compensation and told him he was being jailed because of his previous record.

John Stares was instructed to do 60 hours of unpaid work and undergo drug rehabilitation after he pleaded guilty to stealing a £250 suit. The defendant, aged 37, of Cranmore Avenue, was made the subject of a 12-month community order at the hearing in Swindon Magistrates Court on December 20 and instructed to pay £250 compensation to the victim at the rate of £5 per week.

Mervyn Willis, 24, of Powell Place, Moredon, will face magistrates in Swindon on January 12 to answer to two charges of assault by beating and wilfully obstructing the police in the execution of their duties.
