COUNCIL staff are working to replace the bus stop destroyed in last week's horror crash.
Stop G on Fleming Way was destroyed in Wednesday night's accident.
A Thamesdown 1A bus hit the stop at around 6.15pm - with suggestions from passersby that the bus's brakes appeared to have failed.
Passenger Michelle Commons, 21, from Toothill, said: “We were just leaving the stop, then all of a sudden it got really bumpy. I didn’t know what was happening. Then we crashed into the shelter.
“The driver said to us that he didn’t know what happened – he just lost control. It was terrifying."
Thamesdown and Wiltshire Police are investigating the causes of the crash.
Luckily, no one was injured in the accident.
Swindon Borough Council plan to replace the bus stop, although there is as yet no date set for the new shelter's installation.
A spokeswoman said: “We’ve fenced the bus stop off to make it safe for the public and are meeting with the contractor Clear Channel. The site will then be tidied up and we’ll be looking to replace the bus shelter completely. Buses are currently using alternative bus stops nearby while we work to replace this one.”
