OFFICERS probing an assault in Town Gardens at the weekend face having to drop the investigation – unless the victim comes forward.
Police were called at 3.25pm on Sunday to reports that a young man had been assaulted by a “group of youths” in Old Town park Town Gardens.
But the victim of the attack had fled by the time police arrived - and the lad is yet to come forward. Without his testimony, officers say there is not enough information to progress the case.
A spokeswoman for Wiltshire Police said: “Officers attended the scene and spoke to the witness [who called 999]. The youths had all dispersed and left the scene by this time. We’ve not received a report from the victim at this time.”
On social media, witnesses said that a “lone Asian lad” had been “chased and knocked to the ground by a large group of teenage assailants”.
To report any information about the attack call Wiltshire Police on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
