A POLICE helicopter helped with the search for vandals who threw a rock at a police car.

Two teenagers were arrested after the incident in Pinehurst, which saw two police cars damaged on Tuesday, April 3, at around 1.30pm.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "Officers were attending an address in Beech Avenue, Pinehurst, for an unrelated matter, when one of the officers was informed by a member of the public that her vehicle was being damaged.

"When a second police vehicle attended the scene, a rock was thrown at this car, also causing damage.

"A description of the offenders was given to officers, and a 16-year-old from the local area was arrested based on the description given.

"A 19-year-old man, also from the local area, was arrested after he attempted to make off from the scene."

Both were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and taken to Gablecross custody.

They have since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Sgt Dave Flynn said: “This was a completely mindless act and could have caused injury to officers, as well as members of the public. The vehicles required immediate repairs, with one windscreen completely smashed.

“I’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area during the hours of 1pm and 2pm who may have seen the vehicles being damaged, or anyone in the area acting suspiciously.

“Please call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
