A PENSIONER has been left with life-threatening injuries after a crash on the A419.
The 78-year-old man was taken to Southmead Hospital, Bristol, after his Nissan Micra hit a lamppost and fence on the approach to the A419 from Dorcan.
Wiltshire Police said the man sustained serious and life-threatening injuries in the crash.
Wheatstone Road, the slip road onto the A419, was closed for three hours after the single-vehicle crash at around 5.30pm on Thursday, May 3. Emergency crews and engineers from SSE freed the man and cleared the road.
Firefighters from Stratton and Swindon's Drove Road fire stations were called to the scene at 5.55pm. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said their crews had used specialist cutting equipment to free the pensioner. He was left in the care of the ambulance service.
Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw Thursday's crash to contact PC Lucy Fair on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
