FRIENDS of a Blunsdon care home has raised hundreds of pounds for charity in remembrance of a beloved grandmother.

Staff from call centre Carpeo have been working with Park View Care Home since the start of the year to boost funds that will help to make the lives of the residents more fulfilling.

In the latest event they put on their aprons, rolled up their sleeves and produced more than 15 different items ranging from pastries, brownies and cakes for a bake-off that raised nearly £500.

The call centre employees pick a charity to support each year and decided on the care home in remembrance of a colleague's relative who suffered Alzheimers and was looked after there.

Laura Turner, 32, of Stratton, a Carpeo worker for two years said: “It was very personal to me. The care home cared for my grandmother for 18 months and she passed away in November 2017.

“My grandmother liked baking – she made cakes and apple pies were my favourite.

"It was a brilliant day and a large amount of people got involved. It was a cheerful, happy all-day event.”

The day had different winners based on best large cake, small cake, presentation, best taste, effort and unusual flavoured cake.

Park View Care Home took along a resident Eileen Smith, 84, who was excited to be going for the quiz, cake sale and buffet at Carpeo.

Liz Szymczak, activity co-ordinator at the home, said: “We are amazed and can’t thank Carpeo enough.

"We plan on using the money for a pantomime and entertainment for the residents.”

Carpeo, based in Old Town, has raised thousands of pounds over the years for causes including Christmas Care.
