A DOCTOR at a Highworth surgery has set off on a 1,500km bike ride to Gibraltar.

Dr John Bestwick of Westrop Medical Practice has taken on the challenge to raise money for Gloucester House.

The Highworth drug and rehabilitation centre is run by the Salvation Army.

Grove Hill Care Home residents Sidney Adams, 97,and Dorothy Hodgson, 86, and Highworth’s Deputy Mayor Ryan Acres presented Dr Bestwick with a cheque for £457.30 on behalf of the care home the day before he began his long journey.

Residents and staff also held a raffle and donated to the doctor’s cause before and after the presentation.

Grove Hill Care Home’s management would like to thank everyone who donated raffle prizes and money to the fundraising effort, and those who bought tickets.

Dr John set off on May 10.
