A WOMAN is furious that rubbish has not been removed from a shared bin area near her home - because of a parked car.

Anna Hall, of Aiken Road in Taw Hill, has been forced to dump her rubbish at a supermarket’s waste collection area. She claims that the shared waste area near her home has been overflowing for months without any authority helping to resolve the situation.

Swindon Borough Council has said it was unable to access the bin because of a parked vehicle.

Anna said: “I think the car being an issue stopping them from collecting the rubbish is just an excuse; I can see out to that area and it has never been a problem before.

“I am absolutely disgusted with the way it was left, I shouldn’t have to go to another place to get rid of waste when the communal one is 100 metres from my home. I have seen other tenants making mess, but this is because they had nowhere else to put it. We will get rats.”

The maintenance for properties in the area is managed by a company called First Port.

Property manager Alex Mazurkiewicz agreed that any vehicle that might be obstructing the road shouldn’t stop the bins from being picked up.

He said: “I have contacted the council before regarding this issue and they have point blank refused to clear the rubbish, leaving us to have to get private contractors to do it.

“We want to provide the best possible service for our tenants, but they also need to help themselves by looking after the area for waste, but you do get some that just don’t care.

“We will be sending out another letter to inform properties that bins should not be overflowing and recycling done properly, although it doesn’t surprise me when people litter due to the council not doing the service they promise.”

The rubbish has since been cleared by the council but there are fears that this might happen again.

A Swindon Borough Council spokesman said: “We empty 10,000 wheelie bins and 20,000 recycling boxes every day but, inevitably, there are occasions when a relatively small number of collections are not completed due to issues outside of our control.

“Unfortunately, in this case some parked vehicles blocked access to the bins for our lorries. We faced the same challenge when we went to try to collect the waste again today but were able to arrange for the owner of the vehicle to move their car. All the waste has now been collected.”
