A BLUE plaque will be unveiled to celebrate Swindon's role in the formation of the NHS seventy years ago.
The heritage plaque will honour the Great Western Railway medical fund and hospital which provided medical care for railway workers prior to the formation of the NHS in 1948.
There will also be tours of the buildings that make up the Health hydro on Milton Road.
Swindon Civic Voice Chairman John Stooke said: "This story needs to be told and retold, treasured and not forgotten, at a time when we have so few remaining gems of our local built environment, and when these are under such pressure. We really hope people will come along and begin to understand why we feel so passionately about conserving these remaining links to our history”
The plaque will be unveiled at 12:30 pm on June 16 on Faringdon Road, and tours will run between 11am and 4pm.
