A WOMAN was left injured following an incident at a children’s fete that led to police and an ambulance being called.

Paramedics were also called to GWR Park in Swindon during the late afternoon live music performances after a scuffle broke out, as reporter in the Adver yesterday.

Three police cars and a van were parked near the entrance next to the Territorial Army building while the incident was ongoing.

More than half a dozen officers were spotted speaking to those involved in the incident.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to Faringdon Road Park just before 6pm on Saturday to a report of a disorder involving two men.

“When police arrived, one man, aged 28, was seen fleeing the park.

“He was detained and arrested on suspicion of a Section 4 Public Order offence based on information provided to police at the scene.”

The spokesperson added: “Having re-spoken with parties involved, it would appear no offences were committed and the man was released immediately.”

Another police van arrived at 7.30pm and parked inside the grounds before leaving as a further incident broke out.

An ambulance arrived at 7.50pm and drove on to the path to attend to an injured woman.

A spokesperson for South West Ambulance Service said: “We attended with an ambulance and a female patient was taken to Great Western Hospital with reports of a head and back injury.”

Daniel Rose, chief executive of the Mechanics Institute Trust, which organised the Children’s Fete, praised the work of the emergency services.

He said: “The police were here unbelievably quickly, within just a few minutes.

“It was just a minor scuffle, at large-scale events like this with a lot of people on a hot day, these things happen.

“All the systems we have in place to deal with these incidents worked very well and our private security teams did a great job.

“The police came in quietly, with no sirens, and dealt with it all swiftly and efficiently while everyone else got on with their good time.”
