A DJ at Swindon’s community radio station helped it bag an award.

MC Ranks picked up the Mogul Minded Group Regional Award for Best Radio Station on behalf of Swindon 105.5

The DJ hosts a Caribbean Vibes show every Sunday night from 7pm to 9pm and DJ Andy Vater hosts a Random Reggae show on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12pm.

These shows caught the eye of the MMG team, who recognise top talent in creative industries and music programming.

The winners of the awards were voted for by members of the public.

MC Ranks said: “This is a big achievement for us.

“There was a lot of competition in this category, with stations and radio presenters from Bristol, Gloucester and Cardiff.

“To win in such a great group is really something."

Last year, Mr Ranks won DJ of the Year at the ceremony.

He’s hosted a radio show at Swindon 105.5 for the past 10 years.

The award will be given to the station's team for them to proudly display.

Shirley Ludford, station manager, said: "I'm a very proud station manager.

"There is no other programme like MC Ranks' in the region, and Andy has had international artists on his show and plays music you don't hear on any other regional station.

"I think this is the second time Swindon 105.5 has won the award, it's a great accolade to have.

"We try to have shows which play genres of music that you don't hear on other stations in the region.

"It's really important to have presenters who are knowledgeable and passionate about the music they play.

"Their love of these genres pays dividends for us and the listeners."
