BUILDING site manager turned body builder Danny Clifford has set his sights on getting the ultimate physique as he launches a gruelling training regime to become a UK championship.

The former plasterer started working out after becoming an office based site manager and noticing his fitness suffer.

Two years later, his normal job is a world away from the fake tan, posing and glamour of the body building stage.

He is now on the cusp of representing the UK after qualifying for the Ultimate Physiques Southern Championships in 2019.

Mr Clifford, 25, hits the gym five days a week and will go on a controlled diet in the lead up to the competition, eating six small meals packed full of protein a day to bulk up for the muscle mass competition.

Last year he dropped three and a half stone in two months to shape up for the Southern Championships in Milton Keynes.

He currently manages Bovis Homes properties at Tadpole Cross, in Blunsdon, where his workout has received attention from colleagues and customers, despite being unable to inspire others to follow in his footsteps.

Mr Clifford said: "They’ve shown a lot of enthusiasm for what I’m doing, a lot of pats on the back and well done.

“I went from plastering to becoming a site manager. As a result of the new job, I gained a few pounds so started working out. I’m very competitive and when I heard in my gym in Bristol about the challenge, I had to go for it.”

“Time management and diet are the biggest changes I had to make to my lifestyle. I had to improve my preparation by making food on Sundays and Wednesdays for the next few days, so that I could quickly microwave meals when I needed to eat. I had to plan when to eat – around meetings and other jobs – as I was eating more times a day.

“I also had to fit in training every day.”

Originally from Bristol, he now lives in Gloucester and works at the Swindon housing site that has 190 homes.
