"YOU can stand up, you know. It's not against the law."

The crowd at the Oasis leisure centre didn't need telling twice.

And when soul diva Beverley Knight asked the 3,000 strong crowd if they were going to raise the roof, the screams echoed around the hall.

Dressed in a short silk dress, fishnet tights and killer high heels, the singer burst onto the stage with her track Whole Lotta Love.

Fans packed into the leisure centre certainly showed the West Midlands-born star that they had a lot of love for her as they got to their feet and started clapping their hands.

"It's good to see you all," shouted Beverley, who performed with Bryan Adams at the County Ground in 2006, to the cheering audience.

"We're back - again!

"It's been a remarkable start on the road so far, so Swindon, I want you to set the roof on fire."

Promising the crowd a mix of both old and new soul, Beverley launched into Al Green's After You.

The Queen of Starting Over quickly followed, and Beverley captured the audience with her stunning voice and warm personality. And as the guitar began to play the opening bars of Piece of My Heart, the excitement grew to fever pitch.

Taking the fans back in time with classics like And The Beat Goes On, the 34-year-old could do no wrong.

So when she asked for some audience participation everyone was only too willing to get involved.

The men in the room were getting down and getting up, while the ladies were asking where they could find some love.

With tuneful, and in time singing, Swindon impressed the star of the evening.

"Thank you so, so much, that was amazing. You were all so good," she said.

Favourites Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda, which launched her into the charts, and Come As You Are proved ever popular with the fans as the singer took her final bow of the night.

As the stage stood empty, chants of Beverley's name began to grow louder, and the audience started to clap their hands and stomp their feet for an encore.

And they weren't left disappointed when she stormed back onto the stage with Gold.

It was followed up by Black Butter, which had the room dancing in the aisles before the singer launched into her classic track Greatest Day.

As the rapturous applause and cheers rang out around the hall, Beverley stood smiling and waving on the stage.

Thanking everyone, she took a final bow along with her backing singers and band before bounding off the stage, having given the crowd a night they will never forget.
