The Swindon-based British Computer Society honoured its workforce at the town's refurbished Wyvern Theatre with the annual staff excellence awards.

The event also coincided with culmination of National Customer Service Week, during which individual BCS departments organised a variety of internal events - from quizzes to open-house initiatives and training - to showcase their work.

David Clarke, the society's chief executive, said: "As a highly-regarded employer in the town we take pride in our excellent reputation and the contribution of staff who work hard to make that a reality.

"These awards are designed to underline the BCS's core values and congratulate the people who embody them.

"As a membership organisation we are great supporters of the idea of professionalism in the IT sector, and it is only right that we ask, and reward, those staff members who go that extra mile to deliver this professionalism in their every-day roles."

The awards were presented by the society's president-elect Rachel Burnett.

Rachel says: "The BCS is a large and complex organisation whose employees work hard on behalf of members, and also to inform society about the changing landscape of information technology.

"I am looking forward to helping it strengthen its relationships both internally and externally over the coming year."
