INTREPID walkers from Beard Construction have handed over the last of their sponsorship money to the Prospect Hospice in Wroughton.

The employees took on the Three Peaks Challenge in June in aid of the Prospect Hospice's Prospect@Home appeal.

The team of eight from the Swindon-based company, plus two drivers, climbed the three highest peaks in the UK in just 24 hours.

They began their challenge at Ben Nevis in Scotland before travelling to the Lake District to tackle Scafell Pike, and then completing the trio with Snowdon in Wales.

A team from Beard's Oxford office also took on the challenge to give the event a more competitive edge.

The Swindon Beard team set themselves a target of £5,000 for Prospect@Home.

Yesterday they handed over a cheque for just over £4,000.

Once it is launched, Prospect@Home will offer a 24-hour care service to enable terminally-ill people to stay at home, rather than be admitted to hospital or the hospice.

Andrew Thompson, from Prospect Hospice said: "We are incredibly grateful to the team from Beard for choosing Prospect@Home to benefit from the money raised through their challenge.

"It's great that Swindon businesses are continuing to support a service which in turn benefits the people in and around the town.

"Thanks to Beard's donation we are now one step closer to our £250,000 target for the project."
