THE parents of an 11-year-old girl who died from a brain haemorrhage are holding a charity dinner in her memory.

Georgina King died unexpectedly in January from the bleed, which had been brought on by Idiopathic Thrombo- cytopenic Purpura (ITP), a disorder of the blood which affects the immune system.

Her parents Heather and Toby decided that they wanted the anniversary of her death to be positive, and a celebration of her life.

So they have organised the dinner and auction, at the Hilton Hotel on January 19, to raise money for their charity The Georgina Fund.

"We just wanted to try and get something positive out of it," said Heather.

"It will be a bad day, and we don't want to forget, but this way we can remember her and celebrate her life and who she was.

"She was a very special little girl, and very caring.

"When she was nine she put herself on the organ donor register and has helped six people so far.

"The most recent one we found out about was a four-month-old baby who had one of Georgina's heart valves.

"It is nice to know she is still helping people."

Tickets to the event, which cost £35, have now gone on sale.

The evening, which is being sponsored by the Adver and other local businesses, will feature live music from Live Quarter, a raffle and the auction, which includes items such as a television, phones and passes to various family attractions.

"If anyone has an item that they are willing to donate then we would be really grateful," said Heather.

The family are also looking for someone to add a bit of laughter to the evening and want to hear from any stand-up comedians.

Georgina was diagnosed with ITP in April 2006.

The condition can cause internal bleeding so the youngster missed out on a lot of childhood activities.

It is why her parents began the Georgina Fund, to help other affected children in the area and give them the chance to take part in fun, safe activities.

"The fundraising is going well at the moment," said Heather.

"One of my friends approached her church and they have given us a donation of £200.

"We are hoping to be able to arrange a trip for the children in the New Year."
