Official insolvency figures released today by the Ministry of Justice shows that the number of people declaring themselves bankrupt in Swindon has fallen in the quarter, in line with the national trend.
The latest statistics show a seven per cent fall in people petitioning for their own bankruptcy, as opposed to being forced into bankruptcy by a creditor, from 111 cases in the second quarter of 2007 to 104 cases in the third quarter.
Nationally, the three months ended September 30 saw a fall of five per cent in the number of people making themselves bankrupt in England and Wales and a continued decline in the use of Individual Voluntary Arrangements which dropped two per cent in the most recent quarter, making a total fall of 16 per cent over the past year.
The analysis was completed by KPMG, the liability partnership.
