CHILDREN enjoyed a new £107,000 play area which has just been completed in Wroughton.

The Thorney Park recreation space includes state-of-the-art dynamic play equipment and a multi-use games area with football and basketball nets.

Wroughton Parish Council commissioned the play area and opened it with a well-attended event earlier this week.

Guests received goodie bags, hot chocolate and sweets before being shown the new facilities by members of the Wroughton youth outreach team who then led the games and activities.

Nine-year-old Emily said: "It’s fun and cool with lots of activities. I'll come here almost every day."

Clayton, 14, added: "They have done a good job, the park has a nice variety of things. My little brother and sister are four and five and they love it too."

Codie, aged 12, said: "I like watching the younger kids faces when they are spinning really fast on the sky carousel."

The play area is designed for children aged six and above.

Chair of Wroughton Parish Council John Hewer said: "We had a great turnout for the opening.

"The children really love the new park. It’s very popular with our residents and it was nice to meet with so many of them. We have three parish councillors who live here in Thorney Park who have been real champions of the plans for the new play area."
