HUNDREDS of pages of planning documents have been submitted for Panattoni’s 'world-class' £700 million redevelopment of the former Honda site in South Marston.

This provides our first look at what the new facility will look like and how it will be laid out, along with details about its links to the busy main roads nearby and how the logistics centre developer will counter any negative environmental effects caused by its construction.

It is hoped the state-of-the-art structures will set a new high standard for industrial, storage and distribution spaces, following in the footsteps of the Symmetry Park development.

Ten units will be built around the 145-hectare space and a large park with a lagoon will feature at the south of the site. The project team is targeting a BREEAM Excellent Rating to make the facilities as eco-friendly as possible.

Access for cars and HGVs to and from the site will be via the A361 to the west and Honda’s existing southern and northern roundabouts only. The direct link to Keypoint and the A420 which currently exists will be closed to cars and HGVs.

Within each development plot, space with be given for employee amenities like breakout areas with seating and enhanced planting alongside provision for well being facilities.

The application seeks permission to create a logistics and manufacturing centre, develop the 145-hectare site for light industrial, storage, distribution, and general industrial and manufacturing uses, and create a new public park with cycling and pedestrian paths which link existing routes together.

Around 7,000 new jobs will be created on-site over the next 10 years.
