A JONATHAN Ross impostor could be at large in Swindon, according to the popular chat show host.

The star of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross gave the town a plug on his latest BBC1 show after revealing that eight posters of himself had been found at the Holiday Inn near Coate Water.

Two of the posters, showing Jonathan in his younger days, were addressed to two women, Vikki and Amanda.

He joked that they were discovered in a cupboard along with a pair of false teeth and a prosthetic leg.

But prior to interviewing recent Wyvern panto star Britt Eckland, the 47-year-old denied ever visiting the town and said the signature wasn't even his.

"I was sent a letter from the people who run the Holiday Inn in Swindon and they've been clearing out their lost property cupboard and found eight posters of me abandoned in a cupboard," he said on Friday's show.

"This picture is nearly 20 years old. Here's the thing though, I'm almost sure that I've never been there.

"That isn't my signature, that isn't my handwriting. So I've done some investigating, and obviously this person 20 years ago pretended to be me and enjoyed the fruits of Vikki and Amanda."

According to a Holiday Inn spokeswoman, the posters were left by a guest and were found as staff cleaned out a store cupboard. It is not the first time the hotel has been plugged on national television. In June 2004, chef Santo Russo told the Adver that Gordon Ramsay had ruined his career after he appeared on the Channel 4 show Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.

Russo, who was working at the Holiday Inn at the time the show was filmed, said he couldn't get a job after the Michelin-starred chef slated his cooking in front of millions of viewers.
