THE South Marston Jubilee Committee have spoken of their pride in successfully running a series of events over the four-day bank holiday weekend they say 'will be remembered for years to come.'

A spokesperson said: "When we got together and talked about what we wanted to do in March we said we wanted to have fun, work together and create a memorable, colourful, and joyous weekend of events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

"We also wanted to get together with friends and family and make up for all the things missed because of Covid.

"We smashed it. It was epic!"

The weekend included eight events all made possible by a handful of volunteers and "generous" sponsorship and subsidies from village businesses, friends, and residents.

Each committee member was responsible for helping to organise at least one event.

Things kicked off on Thursday, June 2, with The Carpenters Arms hosting The Big Lunch which was followed in the evening by a Right Royal Quiz in The Carriers Arms.

On Friday, June 3, there was a Royal Party at The Carpenters Arms.

On Saturday, June 4, the Recreation Ground at the village centre held a Children’s Party at 11am, a dog show at 3 and a family party in the ark with a live band in the evening.

Sunday saw an organised 'Walk and Talk' encompassing heritage sites of local history.  Also in the afternoon was a cream tea and bingo session in the pop-up Jubilee Tea Room.

There was even an appearance from the Queen herself (well, sort-of.)

A free raffle ticket was given to each adult for each event attended. Ten lucky winners won £20 vouchers.

"The joy of these special times has been captured in photographs.  They are a testament to the enormously happy times that have been enjoyed by residents of every age.  They are also evidence of what can be achieved with passion and collaboration," the spokesperson added.

"The committee would like to thank everyone for their support and for joining in whole-heartedly to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, an extraordinary achievement."
