BROADGREEN residents say they will not feel safe until someone is arrested for Saturday's firebomb attack.

Despite an increased police presence, residents still feel unsafe, according to community leaders.

At 1am on Saturday a petrol bomb was thrown through the ground floor lounge window of Abdul Rahim's house in Broad Street.

Mr Rahim was in the house with his wife and daughters, and police have admitted they were lucky to escape with their lives.

Det Supt Stephen Fulcher, the senior investigating officer, said: "This fire could easily have led to a number of fatalities, and my team is determined to investigate every line of enquiry, to establish who was responsible for this cowardly attack."

Police and representatives from Swindon Council have met twice with community leaders.

Azim Khan, of Thamesdown Islamic Association, said: "We have had very good communication with the police.

"However, people are still very anxious and will continue to be until the culprit is caught."

Enum Chowdhury, secretary general of Swindon Bangladeshi Association, said: "We are very frightened and a little bit angry because this has happened for the second time.

"This time I think the reaction of the police has been appropriate.

"They have assured us that they are trying their best, but we don't feel safe yet. If they haven't caught the person who did this then it could happen again."
