DAYBREAK at Coate provided the inspirational image that secured first place for amateur photographer Phil Selby in our Adver picture competition.

Readers voted for the image after it was published in the Adver's letters pages in 2007. His Coate Water at Sunrise was published in December for our In Your View feature. He caught the dramatic interplay of sky and water by accident one cold winter morning.

"I'd just left my wife at work and went for a walk on the way home," Phil, 39, said.

"It was such a dramatic sky, it was asking to have its picture taken.

"I am a keen amateur photographer and often visit Coate Water with my camera. I used a Canon 350D with a 10-20mm wide angle zoom lens."

Last year, Phil shot a variety of elusive views, including the International Space Station streaking across the night sky.

He was also there to snap a contemplating toad and a coot on the tail of a water vole for Adver readers.

His dedication to finding memorable pictures meant he also won last year with a view of Liddington Hill.

Phil, who is married to Ingrid and lives near Kingshill, has been taking photographs for 20 years.

Dave Barnes' atmospheric mist at St Michael's Church, Highworth, came second in the In Your View competition.

In third place was Keith Smith's herd of deer spotted near Great Barrington.

Artistuff will provide winner Phil a 30ins x 40ins canvas of his picture worth £100. Its website address is www.artistuff.co.uk and phone number is 01793 488379.
