IT may not make its way to the County Ground anytime soon, but the Premier League trophy has been on show in Swindon.

The cup, which was held aloft last season by Manchester United, was on display at Barclay's Bank in Regent Street as part of a national tour designed to allow supporters closer access to English football's most sought-after prize.

Wide-eyed fans were given the chance to be champions for a moment, as they posed for pictures with the trophy.

However, only those who win the cup are allowed the chance to touch it.

Branch manager Matthew Dyer said: "It's brilliant to have the trophy here in Swindon and especially during half-term because I'm sure there are plenty of kids who have dreamt of lifting that trophy.

"Now they can have the opportunity to at least get close to it."

One person who has long held dreams of getting his hands on the trophy is Arsenal supporter Justin Wallace, 24, from Gorse Hill.

"I'm confident that the trophy will be going to Arsenal this year," he said. "I reckon they're going to win by a clear 10 points.

"It's a great feeling to get close to the Premier League trophy, even if they wouldn't let me pick it up."

Chris Graham, from Abbey Meads, was another lining up to have his picture taken next to the trophy.

The 18-year-old said: "I feel quite privileged to be able to get next to it because it's not something that everyone gets to do.

"I support Swindon and Reading and it doesn't look like either of my teams are going to be winning a trophy this year.

"I think Reading will get it though in the next two or three seasons."

Manchester United are one of only four teams to have won the trophy - the others being Arsenal, Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers.
