A MOTORCYCLIST killed after colliding with an oncoming car died as a result of an accident, a coroner ruled.

Sean Doody, 34, was riding his GSXR 1,000cc Suzuki sports motorcycle in Besselsleigh Road, off the A420, when he was in a collision with a Mitsubishi Shogun on April 11 last year.

An inquest in Oxfordshire heard how Mr Doody, of Firethorn Close, Swindon, died.

During the hearing the court heard how he overtook another vehicle as he approached a bend on the road to Wootton.

He was on his way home from working in Oxford at the time of the crash.

Mr Doody, a plumber who had been working at a hospital in Headington, lost control of his bike as he made his way back into his lane after the overtaking manoeuvre.

That caused him to slide into the path of the oncoming 4x4, another driver, Richard Graham, said.

Thara Sultana Alam, of Southmoor, near Abingdon, who was driving the Mitsubishi, told Oxfordshire coroner Nicolas Gardiner how the accident happened.

"There was a moment before impact I could see he had lost control and he hit the car sideways on and there was an explosion," she said.

Mrs Alam said she got out of her car to check on Mr Doody and immediately called an ambulance. Mr Doody suffered severe internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Mr Gardiner said: "This is clearly an accidental event, the circumstances being that he lost control of his motorcycle on the left-hand bend, colliding with an oncoming vehicle."

After the inquest, Emma Harding, 27, a friend of Mr Doody's partner Susan Kay Maggs, said: "Sean was such a strong and loving person. He and Susan had just bought a house together and his death has affected everyone who knew him."
