A COMPANY has put a pensioner who had his mobility scooter stolen back on the road.

Kenny Marsh, 78, and his 77-year-old neighbour Sara Slack both had their mobility scooters stolen from their sheltered housing complex in Park South.

But after hearing about his plight in the Adver, Teresa Kelly-Nurse, area manager for Keep Able in Cricklade Road, said her firm would give Mr Marsh a new scooter free of charge.

She said: "We're not a charity, but we do hope to help in the community."

When Mr Marsh heard the news he was stunned, but delighted.

He said: "I'd like to thank them very much."

Keep Able is one of the biggest national mobility aid retailers in the country.

Mrs Kelly-Nurse was shocked when she heard about what had happened.

"I sell a lot of scooters and I know the difference it makes to somebody's life and I can just imagine the distress of the man."

The two mobility scooters were stolen from George Hall Court, Royston Road, on Monday morning.

Mr Marsh had not realised he needed insurance until after the theft. Without the donation, Mr said that it was unlikely he could have afforded a new scooter.

Mrs Kelly-Nurse said she was not surprised by the theft.

"We do get children coming along - I can't even display the scooters outside my store," she said.

"It's very distressing and not something we want to hear. It is a real shame because people really rely on it to be able to get out to a shop."

Mr Marsh said he had been touched by people's kindness and thanked the Advertiser.
