A Christmas tree that was placed on a famous Swindon landmark has taken until February to be removed.

The Magic Roundabout in Swindon is famed for its confusing and complex junction layout but it was the sightings earlier this week of a small Christmas in the centre of the roundabout that was the talk of the town.

Swindon Borough Council have now provided a response to the festive prank, informing that the tree has now been removed.

Councillor Kevin Parry, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Waste Collection and Disposal & Highways Maintenance, said: “This small artificial tree has been removed and is on its way to being recycled. It obviously wasn’t getting motorists in a spin because the first time we were alerted to it was when the Advertiser got in contact this week.

“We appreciate the Christmas tree was displayed in jest, but the Magic Roundabout is one of the busiest junctions in Swindon and crossing into the centre of it for a stunt like this is not safe. At the risk of sounding like Scrooge, our team also has better things to do than clear up after pranksters.

“We don’t know who left it there, but we hope whoever it was is not experiencing bad luck as it is well past the Epiphany.”
