A pub regular claims he was threatened at his local and left so terrified that he chose to stay in a hotel for the night rather than walk home alone.

Pensioner Trevor Bown says the incident happened the The Folly Inn pub in Farringdon on the afternoon of Thursday, February 23.

He says he feared for his life following heart surgery 13 years ago.

Police are now investigating, although the pub management flatly denied the 70-year-old's claims when contacted by the Adver.

“I had only gone into the pub for a cup of coffee and I’m a regular, but one of the other customers there threatened to hit me,” said Trevor.

“He said that I had insulted his wife who was working behind the bar.”

The pensioner says the man who threatened him was in his 20s and the nasty exchange had shocked him.

“I believe I am a nice person and everyone I know likes me in the town,” said Trevor.

“It left me feeling very angry as well as frightened.”

After the alleged altercation, Trevor says he was asked to leave the pub.

“I’ve had keyhole heart surgery back in 2010 so a hit could have killed me,” he said.

“I haven’t been threatened for years because it of course used to happen when I was younger but I didn’t mind it then.

“Now I’m an old man and had heart surgery I just can’t afford to be caught up in it. I don’t want to die.”

Trevor says he was left shaken by the experience and could not bring himself to walk back to his house.

“I was too terrified to walk home in the dark so I bought a room at the Sudbury House hotel which cost my £155,” he said.

“I will never go back to that pub and it is a shame.”

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “Thames Valley Police received a report of public order on London Street in Faringdon on Friday, February 24.

“Officers are investigating the incident.

“If anyone has any information please call 101 quoting 43230085512.”

When the Adver has contacted The Folly Inn for comment, someone claiming to be the manager told us in a message: "We do not serve coffee and certainly no one has been kicked out.

"With regard to the staff, no men work here."
