A Swindon mother has been left bemused and shocked after her egg delivery was raided from her doorstep - with just the eggbox left behind.

Rita Griciute, from Walcot, has six eggs and four bottles of milk delivered to her door every Saturday morning but last weekend, woke up to discover the six eggs had been looted.

The most precarious thing for Rita was that although the would-be thieves had taken the eggs, they had actually left the eggbox on the doorstep.

“I thought it was funny because why would you leave the eggbox if you had to carry the eggs,” she said.

“It made me suspicious and curious with the whole thing being quite amusing to me.”

The 40-year-old was surprisingly sympathetic to the theft of the eggs, which are worth £1.89 per box.

“I have two kids and that is who the eggs are for as they only eat them at the weekend,” said Rita.

“We have had to go without eggs for a week as I like to get them locally which is what we get delivered.

“If someone genuinely needs them that is okay but I would be sad if they had used them for vandalism.”
