A teenager who smashed his victim’s teeth out with a bat in a 'disgraceful and shocking' attack' is off the streets.

The 15-year-old boy from Devizes pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent.

He attacked a man in his 20s on The Green in Nursteed Road on Tuesday, January 10 with a wooden bat.

The victim suffered a deep cut to his head, cuts to his face, a number of missing teeth and bruising to his arm.

The boy also pleaded guilty to possession of an air weapon and assaulting an emergency worker on Saturday, April 8 when he appeared at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, April 11.

He will spend the next six months in secure accommodation and was given a four-month detention and training order.

He also pleaded guilty to the criminal damage of a police cell door.

Sgt Luke Atkinson said: “This is completely disgraceful and shocking behaviour that simply will not be tolerated in our community.

“We have seen an increase in youth related crime recently, and we would encourage anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact us immediately. Our officers will always respond swiftly and robustly to reports of this nature.”
