A music festival hosted in Swindon has joined forces with local artists to showcase their talent with art-related activities at the event.

My Dad’s Bigger Than Your Dad Festival is held in tribute to Dave Young, the former landlord of The Victoria and 12 Bar, who died in early June 2021 after a hard-fought battle against cancer.

With as many as 16 musical acts taking to the stage for this year, this edition of the festival is already starting to take shape.

Alongside the music, the festival team are now also collaborating with Swindon Paint Fest, hosting an area of creativity at this year’s event on Saturday, July 22.

Six local artists will be live painting in the Sunken Garden while there will also be a guided spray paint and acrylic pen workshop led by Old Town’s Mamsgallery.

Caryn Koh from Swindon Paint Fest said: "We at Swindon Paint Fest are excited to collaborate with My Dad's Bigger Than Your Dad event which is a great initiative raising money for Swindon's Prospect Hospice.

“These talented artists Ed Poster, T Rex, Sophie Mills-Thomas, Jaksta Art, Dario Santos and Dayna Baxter will grace the event doing live painting to complement the amazing music line up for the day.”

My Dad’s Bigger Than Your Dad Festival co-organiser, Gemma Denley-Doswell said: “We were all blown away by the sheer talent of the artists involved in last year’s Swindon Paint Fest and love the colour that their artworks have brought to our town.

“We are so honoured that these incredible artists have given up their time to come to our little festival and hope that it also helps get their art in front of other members of the community that may not have been aware of the Paint Fest or of the artists themselves.”

The funds raised by the music festival are donated to Wroughton’s Prospect Hospice which provides palliative and end-of-life care for people across the region.

This is a cause close to the hearts of all involved with the Swindon music festival as the hospice is where Dave Young died in 2021 after receiving care.

My Dad’s Bigger Than Your Dad Festival raised over £24,000 for Prospect Hospice in its first two years.

The 2023 event is being held on Saturday, July 22, in the Town Gardens, Old Town.
