Say the word festival, and most of us will think of country fields, tents and stages in the far distance.

But for hundreds of people in Chippenham, there’s festival fun to be had on the driveway of a modern housing estate.

Party on the Drive will see around 250 people flock to the shared driveway of two homes in Pewsham for around 12 hours of music and food.

The driveways of organiser Prince Scott and his next door neighbour will be transformed by a marquee, portable loo and bar for the charity event on September 2.

It is the third time the 66-year-old former Barclays and Wessex Water employee has teamed up with neighbours and friends to lay on the mini-festival, with previous celebrations in 2016 and 2018.

The event in Tavinor Drive is licensed by Wiltshire Council and will raise money for three cancer charities: Sarcoma UK, Cancer Research UK, and the prostate cancer group Prost8.

With around a month to go, DJ and music fanatic Prince is flat out securing sponsors, and juggling everything from the master rota to raffle prizes.

People come from as far afield as Cornwall and Nottingham for the party, with entertainment this year including the Vocal Works Gospel Choir, ska and reggae group The Emperials and The Wildflowers. There will also be DJs, with music ranging from northern soul to funk.

Prince said the event was a lot of work, but that he had great support from neighbours and friends.

“To see everyone enjoying themselves makes it all worthwhile. We don’t do it for status: it’s our lifestyle.

“We do it for the love of music, and we want to help other people who are less fortunate than us.”

He said he would willingly try to organise the party every year if he had the right financial support to help with the cost of expensive items like the marquee, which has set him back £4,700 this time.

Among the businesses supporting this year’s event are Aztec Electrical, Red Squirrel Plumbing, and UK Power Solutions.

Housebuilder David Wilson Homes Bristol has also helped out, with this year’s event in memory of neighbour and party co-founder Tim Blythe, who worked for the firm.

Tickets cost £25 for adults, and £10 for under-18s, with under-tens going free.
