A Swindon woman who writes, directs and produces horror films is looking for cast and crew for future projects.

Janine Pipe from Ash Brake has been directing horror films for years as well as writing numerous books after growing up watching the genre.

Her latest bone-chilling film ‘HER’ is about called a young woman waking up in a room, tied to a chair and the picture is currently on the film festival circuit.

Despite there being plenty of genres on offer for directors, horror well and truly has Janine’s heart.

“Directing horror is the best because you can do anything you want as fear is so subjective because the most mundane topic can be turned chilling,” she said.

“Personally I love gore and horror can be practically effect driven so you can just take your actor and throw fake blood at them.

“We can use CGI but I prefer to use practical effects so when I use a body you want it to be as real as possible without it actually being real.”

Janine has lived in Swindon for 18 years after moving from Somerset and worked with the police before leaving to have her daughter.

The 43-year-old now follows her dreams in the film industry and finds that the job allows more time to spend with her family too.

“I have responsibilities here as a mum so it’s important to me to be able to look after my family and be able to do my work on my doorstep,” said Janine.

“Writing has always been a hobby and something that I’ve enjoyed but I only got into published writing at the start of lockdown when I got time to do it.

“My 13-year-old daughter loves horror thankfully but we do still vet what she sees but she already has a passion for it.

“We keep it fun for her and she loves that her mum makes the practical effects and finds it quite interesting.”

The director is now looking to find local cast and crew to help with her future projects.

“I would love to see who is around nearby as it makes sense if you can collaborate with people in your own area rather than travelling far and wide,” said Janine.

“I am a bit older and I would love to share my experience to the new generation of filmmakers coming through.”
