A heavily advertised upcoming music gig at a Swindon venue has been suddenly cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

Mardy Bums, a tribute act to Yorkshire indie rock band Arctic Monkeys, were set to rock the MECA on Friday, September 15.

Yet the band from Surrey, who are named after Alex Turner & Co’s ‘Mardy Bum’ track, had to cancel their Wiltshire gig earlier this month.

“Unfortunately we've had to cancel our gig in Swindon due to circumstances out of our control,” said band member Jack.

“Huge shame as we were looking forward to it.”

The Swindon venue confirmed this reason as a lack of sales and assured that refunds would be available to those who held tickets.

A spokesperson for MECA said: “Due to a substantial lack of ticket sales and in spite of heavy marketing, this event was not going to be financially viable for either party.

“As such the band has taken the decision to cancel the show. We are hopeful that we will be able to secure a date later in the calendar and that we will see an increase in interest further down the line.

“In the meantime, full refunds have been provided to all ticket holders and anyone with any queries regarding this should contact us at this email address.”
