As we all know, breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day but, if you’re anything like me, mornings are the worst so waking up in time to actually butter a piece of toast or pour some cereal into a bowl is very rare.

So when I checked the Too Good To Go app, where different food establishments sell leftover food at a drastically reduced price, and saw a £3 ‘Breakfast Buffet Surprise Bag’ being sold from the Leonardo Hotel (formerly the Jury’s Inn), I booked in my collection.

I picked it up at 10am on Thursday and was a little bit disappointed at the weight of the bag as my previous endeavours at getting cheap leftover food has resulted in heavy bags of food.

The lady was very friendly and I was given the bag immediately.

I made my way back to the office and opened up the goods.

What I found was a sausage and bacon sandwich, three hashbrowns, seven small pastries, and an apple.Swindon Advertiser:

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the sandwich and the hashbrowns were still warm despite it being nearly half an hour from when I collected them.

The selection of food always depends on what is left over at the end of food service and that is why it is a slightly unusual selection of food.

Although they weren’t very generous with the filling of the sandwich it was well-made with a good choice of bread which was nicely buttered.Swindon Advertiser:

I then started on the stack of hashbrowns, these weren’t fantastic.

I do however have a high standard of hashbrowns because my brother is known to order seven hashbrowns with his breakfast so this needs to be taken into consideration. I found these hashbrowns to be a bit soggy and were quite bland but I still ate all three.

What I thoroughly enjoyed was the seven mini pastries - four mini pain au chocolat and three mini croissants. They tasted fresh, were crispy, and were genuinely very good pastries.

The pain au chocolats really stole the show as they had a generous amount of chocolate in them.Swindon Advertiser:

There really isn’t much that you can say about an apple but I did enjoy it.

As I am repeatedly finding with most of the Too Good to Go bags that I have tried, it was incredibly good value for money and the food was of a relatively high standard which I thoroughly enjoyed.
