A popular Indian restaurant in Swindon has been given a new food hygiene score.

Ruchi on Victoria Road in Old Town has consistently featured in Tripadvisor’s rankings for places to eat in the town, offering a variety of curries and more.

The eatery was inspected by Swindon Borough Council’s Environmental Health team on Friday, September 15 and was subsequently rated four-out-of-five.

Inspectors deemed the cleanliness and condition of the building and facilities to be very good.

This includes having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

It was in the other two qualifying factors that Ruchi missed out on the top marks of a five-out-of-five hygiene rating.

The restaurant’s hygienic food handling which includes preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage was only ranked as generally satisfactory.

Ruchi’s management of food safety which ensures a system or checks are in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat also was rated generally satisfactory.

This also concerns that there is evidence that staff know about food safety and that the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
