The sacrifice of those who those who died in wars fighting for the country will be remembered on both days of the coming Remembrance weekend.

On Saturday, which is the anniversary of the actual Armistice Day in 1918, a service will be held at the Cenotaph at 11am to mark the 106th anniversary of the guns falling silent at the end of the First World War.

The ceremony will feature a two-minute silence and the laying of crosses.

For Remembrance Sunday, a British Legion parade with the armed forces will take place at 10.35am, going from the Granville Street car park to the Cenotaph.

The parade will arrive at the Cenotaph at 10.45am where a service will be held, including a two-minute silence and the laying of wreaths.

The occasion will be held on behalf of the Mayor of Swindon, Councillor Barbara Parry, alongside the Royal British Legion.

Mayor of Swindon, Councillor Barbara Parry, said: "I am proud and honoured to represent our town, to help to ensure that younger generations continue to remember all those who serve and have served our Crown and country, sacrificing their lives to protect our lives and our freedom.

“We owe them so much, the very least we can do is to show them the utmost respect, keep their memory alive, while also striving to live in peace and encouraging others to do the same."

Both events will be delivered by Reverend Canon Simon Stevenette from Christ Church with St Mary’s and will see The Last Post performed.
